Back to School

It’s that time of year again! Fresh erasers, crisp school bags and shiny new shoes are everywhere, along with the collective sigh of relief from frazzled parents abound.

The big one returned to her new class a couple of weeks ago but the small one has only just completed her first week of big school! It was a little bit weird for us this time round, as she already attended the nursery which shares the building last year, and they already wore the uniform too, so it wasn’t so much of a big start as it was with the big one last time. But still, she was very excited to be a “Big girl” starting “Big school”, plus she now gets to have a proper book bag, bless her.

And it’s not just children returning or starting school, all around the city, the smell of freshers is in the air!

It’s hard to believe that this time last year I was beginning my university journey. A year ago tomorrow I picked up the keys to my new home and was about to move us all to the city for a fresh start and begin what is still proving to be an ever changing process to a new future.

I have learnt a lot in the last year, made new friends and fought many challenges. I have grown in myself and continue to learn every day. Things have been tough and I have no doubts that there are many obstacles still to come my way. However moving to the city is one of the best things I have ever done and I love it here. It also has the added bonus of being near my mum again, a constant source of strength and encouragement and someone I owe so much to, as I have said before, and will continue to do so! I love you mum, thank you for everything you do x

So bringing it back to me, a weeks time and I shall be embarking on the second year of my degree. It feels weird not to be a fresher any more, like I am a proper grown up uni student now! Crikey. Feels scary and weird, but also exciting and I cant wait to get back into the swing of things again and to see all my friends too.

Now does that mean I get to have shiny new shoes and fresh erasers?
